Wine
An endless obsession...
I was among the 1st to join the Captain's Table at
Seven Sails Vineyard, back when wine club was started. The owners are some lifelong friends in Oregon who own about 3 x
acres of Pinot Gris grapes, planted in the early-2000s. After harvest - grapes are trucked to a local vintner for crushing, de-stemming, production, and fermentation. Even since moving away, I still have a case shipped to me several times per year.
Harvesting fun!
The complete lineup of Pinot Gris, Rosé, Rouge (special red made from white grapes, skins on then finished on French oak), and sparkling. Captain's Reserve is barrel-fermented, also not pictured is Cabernet Sauvignon from a neighbor. Everything 2014-2017
(far left all the way to dark Rouge) is out-of-stock and no longer available. Also note switch to eco-friendly packaging, i.e. no foil wrap in 2017 and onwards.
Some of my own, custom label reds and private reserve series. Haven't done a run of these for a little while, ever since my winemaker in California increased the minimum order.
Another rare find - 2023 Petillant Valdiguié from
Broc Cellars, Berkeley CA. A lighter sparkling, made using the Charmat Method. (Not the familiar Méthode Champenoise, thus a lightweight bottle with no
cork and wire cage.) Special thanks to Kanitha Matoury.
With compliments to Alton Brown and Elizabeth Ingram...
Likely the nicest bottle I've ever bought - 2019 Trace Ridge Cabernet Sauvignon, Estate Series from Kendall-Jackson.
